ART enthusiasts have asked Sheffield Council to consider allowing volunteers to help out at Graves Gallery to expand its hours.
The venue, above Central Library on Surrey Street, is open for just 13 hours a week due to budget cuts at management trust, Museums Sheffield, implemented earlier this year as part of savings by the council.
Janet Murray and Sylvia Harvey, both fans of visual arts, attended a full meeting of Sheffield Council to present their idea.
Janet, of Nether Edge, said: “We are concerned Sheffield’s permanent collection in the Graves Gallery is now on very limited display, and would like to ask whether measures could be taken to provide better access.
“This is not a plea for more money, it’s a request for the council to look at how we can make these treasures more available to the public.”
Sheffield Council leader, Coun Julie Dore, said: “I am sure our members who are on the trust will consider your suggestions and hopefully come up with some solutions.”
