New members are being sought for a South Yorkshire archaeology group which takes part in local excavations and welcomes top speakers.

Dearne Valley Archaeological Group is to welcome potential recruits to their next meeting on Wednesday October 8 at 7pmat Wath Trinity Community Hall on Chapel Street, Wath.

This year the group has hosted lectures by top academics such as Professor Ian Wood from the University of Leeds, discussing his research on Northumbria in the post-Roman world, and local historian Ron Clayton.

Members have been involved in several excavations at sites such as the WW1 Barnsley PALS Training Camp at Silverwood, and the possible Mesolithic occupation site at Sutton Common near Doncaster.
