Greens announce local election candidates

SHEFFIELD Green Party has announced its three leading candidates for the May local elections.

City GP Jillian Creasy, leader of the party's group on Sheffield Council, is defending her seat in Central ward, which she has held since 2004.

Meanwhile, former Central ward colleague Bernard Little is standing again in Broomhill, where he was unsuccessful last year.

Mr Little is up against sitting Lib Dem, Coun Alan Whitehouse.

Mohammad Tanwir Rauf is standing in Nether Edge.

Mr Rauf is a charity worker who has also been involved in "city-wide cohesion and diversity initiatives". He is helping to set up a community forum in Abbeydale and is also a board member of black and ethnic minority environmental group Shebeen.

The party's other candidates will be announced before the elections on May 5.
