MORE than a third of people in Sheffield would like to do more to reduce isolation of elderly people – but lack the confidence to do so.
Although 15 per cent of city people are already trying to do something, 35 per cent of respondents to a new survey said they would like to help but don’t know how.
Emma Soames, editor of Saga Magazine, said: “Tackling social isolation is enormously important in helping older people to maintain their quality of life.”
The Ageing Well challenge, funded by the Cabinet Office, is seeking to create new opportunities for people to give time, skills and resources. The deadline to submit ideas is September 14 – log on to www.nesta.org.uk/givingchallenges
