Did you hear the people sing?

Shoppers in Sheffield certainly did when fans of Les Miserables gathered in front of the Town Hall for a surprise performance.

The event was part of an attempt to set a new ‘mass participation’ world record of a song from the musical.

Participants were also encouraged to support the charity Nordoff Robbins, which helps improve the lives of vulnerable children and adults through music.

Dozens of fans of the theatre show and film turned out in Sheffield for the flashmob singalong, carefully planning a sudden arrival to surprise passers-by.

They performed the number Do You Hear The People Sing?, one of the best-known tunes from Les Miserables which also features I Dreamed a Dream, made even more famous by talent show contestant Susan Boyle.

Results from the record attempt will be submitted to Guinness World Records.
