TIMBER from felled trees has found a new life - as artwork in a community project.
Residents in the Wisewood, Loxley and Wadsley areas of Sheffield will soon see wooden sculptures, benches and noticeboards spring up.
And many local people have helped in their creation, by attending community workshops and learning how to carve wood or plant trees.
The project came about following improvements to the areas, in which trees that were leaning, overgrown or diseased were removed.
The waste wood was then transformed and the results will be installed in March.
Artist Cara Flynn said: “The items include three totem sculptures, lots of weird and wonderful benches with curious animal fee and notice boards with antlers.”
Woodcarver Lorraine Botterill, metal sculptor Owen Cunningham and Handspring Design of Ecclesall have all been involved in the scheme.
