Tickhill Bowling Club is in danger of folding because it is struggling to afford a membership levy imposed by Doncaster Council.
Members have asked Tickhill Town Council if it is possible for the amount they pay for using the kitchen at the Tithes Lane Pavilion to be reduced.
Representatives of the club have told the council that Doncaster Council is to charge a levy of £25 per member this year and, despite a membership recruitment drive, only one new player has joined the club.
To enable the club to pay the levy the membership fee would have to rise sharply as the club does not have sufficient reserves to pay the proposed levy.
There are fears the club may have to fold if a suitable arrangement cannot be reached.
Tickhill Town Council has told the club it does not want to see the club close down and has suggested the club secretary should contact Doncaster Mayor Peter Davies, who is responsible for the levy, and ask that he reduce or remove it.
