Fancy dress fun at suburb’s fair

THE noise and colour of a fancy dress procession will mark the start of the Heeley Festival in Sheffield this Saturday.

The event is billed as the biggest in Heeley’s calendar and this year will be themed around the Olympics.

Food from around the world and community stalls will provide the backdrop to performances from Newfield School rockers, and returning band The Theories.

Phoenix Falconry will fly birds of prey, Heeley City Farm will be the venue for a farmers’ market, Heeley Parish Church will serve cream teas, Heeley History Group will stage an exhibition and, new to this year’s festival, there will be a vintage car show on Gleadless Road.

Bargain hunters can browse a car boot sale at Anns Grove School, and children will be entertained by Ben Z the Magician, a bouncy slide and castle, archery, go-karts, face painting and fairground rides.

The procession begins at 11.30am at The Institute on Gleadless Road. The festival fun runs from noon to 5pm.
