A SINGLE mum’s house was completely made-over by a group of volunteers in just one day.
Katrina Docking, aged 32, from Woodthorpe in Sheffield, was unable to keep up with the demands of looking after her two girls Corrina, 14, and Minnisha, eight, as well as her home after a breakdown a couple of years ago.
She said: “When I saw it I thought I’d walked into the wrong house! My house used to be a mess. It was all really old stuff and there was no carpet.
“My favourite bit now is my bedroom. I told them my favourite colour is red and they worked around it – I’ve got one red wall and red cushions on my bed. I love it. The girls think it’s all brilliant.”
The volunteers, from Hope City Church and Megacentre on Bernard Road, were given Katrina’s details by Pipworth Primary school.
Project director Ali Bianchi said: “It was a privilege to be able to give some support to this amazing family over Christmas. Seeing the looks on their faces was priceless.”
The paint, carpet, furnishings and tools were all donated from local businesses or gifts from members of the church.
