A marvellous main followed by a delicious dessert earned young Sheffield chef Ella Haycock a place in the regional finals of a top cookery competition.
The 15-year-old Stocksbridge High School pupil served up fantastic food at the South Yorkshire final of the Springboard FutureChef 2014 challenge.
Her winning menu, of spinach and ricotta tartlet with side salad followed by tiramisu, swept aside other young hopefuls, all aged between 12 and 16.
Ella’s success at the Let’s Get Cooking event at Sheffield Hallam University won her through to the north east regional final, to be held at the same venue.
The national finals will be held on March 24.
Head judge Jane Patterson said: “The competition was extremely close as the standard was of such a high quality.”
Ella said: “I really didn’t expect to win FutureChef cooking my favourite dish. I am very excited about the regional final.”
Her teacher, Katey Felton, added: “Ella was delighted to be part of the competition and is looking forward to getting back to school and developing her dish in preparation for the next round.”
The FutureChef contest is now in its 14th year.
