YOUNGSTERS enjoyed a date with the drums on a day devoted to rhythms African-style.
Pupils from Totley Primary School welcomed drummimg expert Dr Godson Ogwudire into class to kick off a topic examining black history.
The Year 4 children were given an introduction to the complex beats of the continent, learning to play different instruments and finding out where they came from.
Teacher Nicola Wileman said the pupils also learned some of the basics of music-making – such as beat, rhythm, harmony and how important it is to stay in time with each other to make the maximum impact.
“We also explored African dance and the limbo – and found that some of us were actually quite good at this!” she said,
“The event was great fun and all the children had smiles on their faces. Godson really inspired the children to be good citizens and encouraged them to strive to be the best they can be in everything they want to do,” Nicola added.
