GREASE is the word for a former Rotherham college student who has landed himself a top stage role.

Josh Dever, aged 22, is to play a key role in the popular musical as it goes on a UK tour.

He was awarded a scholarship at London’s Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts after studying at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology.

Josh will play the part of Sonny, while also acting as first cover for Kenickie and second cover for the leading man Danny.

He said: “I have played the role of Kenickie for the last few shows, so it’s been really exciting.

“My time at RCAT was invaluable as it provided me with the path towards the career of my dreams.

“It was the start of my career so it is somewhere I will never forget.”

Josh left Rotherham to hone his skills as an actor, singer and dancer in London, playing major roles in West Side Story and The Taming of the Shrew.

His talents were quickly recognised and he became head boy in his final year of study.

Grease The Musical is on tour until May next year with the final show taking place in Sheffield.

Afterwards, Josh hopes to pursue his career in television and films.

Martyn Howells, head of performing arts at the college, said: “It’s students like Josh that make their dreams a reality.”

He added: “It fills me with great pride to see one of our former students become so successful and living to his full potential.”
