WORLD champion mountain biker Steve Peat had some world class back-up for his annual downhill race at Greno Woods in Sheffield - volunteers from Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.
Helpers enjoyed a day off from Peak District emergencies to provide safety cover for the Steel City Series event, attended by hundreds of mountain bikers and spectators from all over the north.
The most serious incident the team had to deal with happened during the practice runs, when a 29-year-old woman from Todmorden suffered a back injury and had to be stretchered off. She was treated by doctors and released to travel home later on Saturday.
The highlight for the team was when Peat popped along to the rescue base to say hello and have photos taken.
Team spokesman Scott Roberts said: “It was an excellent day.”
