CONSULTATION has been launched on plans to build a 139-space park-and-ride facility next to Sheffield's Dore and Totley railway station in a bid to cut commuter parking on surrounding streets.
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive is planning the car park on the site of the former garden centre next to the station, on Abbeydale Road South.
It wants to know the views of people in the area before it submits a planning application for the development in March.
It is designed to solve parking problems which have plagued the area for years.
Comment forms are available and there is also the chance to meet the project team and give your views.
David Brown, SYPTE Director General, said: "This proposed facility will be a tremendous asset to the area around Dore, where people have been calling for more parking spaces for some time.
"We hope that local people will take the time to view our proposals and to give us their feedback to allow us to submit a design that meets people's needs as closely as possible."
Residents have complained for several years of motorists double-parking on surrounding streets, such as Dore Road, because the current station car park is too small.
Residents have complained the parked cars are restricting people's access to homes and putting pedestrians at risk.
The proposals involve a new vehicular entrance to the car park and railway station, and a new pedestrian crossing on Abbeydale Road South.
A covered cycle shelter will also be installed and there will be specific parking for disabled blue badge holders. Trees bordering the site are to be replaced with a landscaping strip designed to retain the character of the area, whilst taking up less space so as many parking places can be created as possible.
The out-of-town bus stop will be moved a little further towards Dore to allow the pedestrian crossing to be installed.
If the planning application is approved work could begin on site in the summer, subject to funding being obtained.
The drop-in consultation event will be held on Thursday January 20 from 2pm until 7.30pm, at Abbeydale Sports Club, on Abbeydale Road South.
Leaflets about the park- and-ride plans, with feedback forms, are also now available from Dore and Totley Library, Dore Village Post Office, Dore Medical Centre, Dore Methodist Church, Dore Parish Church and other outlets in the area.
Details can also be found at sypte.co.uk or by contacting Gillian Palmer on 0114 2211285.
The closing date for responses is Monday February 7.
