A Barnsley lass got more than she bargained for on a trip to soak up local culture.

Jennifer Crump, from Hoyland, went home with a free hotel stay after becoming the 100,000th visitor to the recently-opened Experience Barnsley discovery centre.

Mrs Crump was on a day out with husband Brian and grandson Henry when she scooped the prize.

Coun Roy Miller, Barnsley Council cabinet member for culture, said: “Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Crump.

“The culture offer in Barnsley has been extremely successful and to have so many people visit Experience Barnsley in such a short period of time is testament to just how popular and well-loved the museum and discovery centre is.”
