Council looks at keeping library open

Have your say

Bawtry Town Council is working on plans for a public consultation exercise to gauge the appetite of volunteers who would be capable of running the town’s library after the threat of closure.

Councillors have been advised by Doncaster Mayor Peter Davies that the building on Doncaster Road will not be sold, there are no plans to withdraw current computer facilities, and the borough council will still fund the cost of books.

The town council has requested information about staffing costs, rates, utilities, phone, refuse collections, ground maintenance and cleaning costs. Members have resolved to progress the running of the well-used library with a group taking on charitable status and they will be holding further meetings with Doncaster Council.
