A consultation process is to be held on plans to scrap Barnsley’s mobile library service from next April as part of a £28 million cuts package.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for communities, said: “To meet our target we need to save £100,000 from our library service and we are suggesting we do this by stopping the mobile library.”

The mobile library serves areas more than one mile away from a library building, stopping every three weeks. It also visits 10 schools and eight nursery groups.

The consultation period runs from November 3 until December 12.
