THE Cross Scythes pub on Derbyshire Lane in Norton Lees, Sheffield, is under new management - award-winning brewery Thornbridge.

The Bakewell-based brewery has agreed a 10-year, free-of-tie, partnership lease on the pub, owned by Punch Taverns.

Thornbridge’s chief operating officer Simon Webster said: “The deal was completed in a very positive way, with both sides keen to make the best of a site that has underperformed for some years.”

Punch will invest £200,000 in a refurbishment designed to make the 1930s building a ‘destination pub for the local community’.

The Cross Scythes will be managed by Mike Pidgeon and will reopen after its extensive refurbishment on August 2.

Thornbridge has already taken on several other pubs around Sheffield, including the former Trippets, now DaDa, on Trippet Lane, The Bath Hotel off West Street, The Hallamshire House at Commondise, Crookes, and The Greystones music venue at Greystones.
