Sheffield City Hall has had a packed calendar of events for May - adding a weeks worth of extra events compared to the same time last year.
The venue has hosted to top acts including Leona Lewis, Midge Ure, Bill Bailey, OMD, Chris Ramsey and Reginald D Hunter, as well as a record number of student balls, banquets and weddings in the month.
Management say the trend is set to continue throughout the summer with big shows from Joe Satriani, Elvis Costello, Jimmy Carr and Thea Gilmore in June.
There will also be conferences from KPMG, DWP, ENCALS and charity dinners next month - followed by the Arts Marketing Association Conference visiting in July.
Tickets for The Mavericks, Texas and Caro Emerald have all gone on sale this month with more events to be announced in the coming weeks.
Richard Hunter, general manager of City Hall, which is run by Sheffield International Venues, said: “Despite the continuing economic challenges it seems that people are still determined to enjoy life and this is reflected by the growing confidence of promoters and event organisers putting events into the City Hall.
“The traditional quiet summer period seems to be getting shorter and shorter and we are delighted to be part of the resurgent entertainment and growing business sector.”
The Grade II listed venue which last year celebrated its 80th anniversary has continued to increase the amount of shows from top name entertainment acts across the music to comedy industry.
SIV said City Hall is now ‘firmly established’ as one of the top entertainment venues in Yorkshire.
Further imminent news at the venue will be top names appearing for the Last Laugh Comedy Festival in October.
The event is organised by the Last Laugh Comedy Club which is held in the City Hall’s Memorial Hall every Friday and Saturday.
