People who may be alone at Christmas are being invited to attend two community lunches on Christmas Day.

South Yorkshire Housing Association has teamed up with Age Better in Sheffield to welcome people aged 50 and over who could be alone over the festive season and live in the Beauchief, Greenhill and Burngreave wards to join them.

The Christmas Day lunches will be served at 12.30pm at The Meadows, Busk Meadows, Shirecliffe and The White Willows, Dyche Road, Jordanthorpe.

Big-hearted residents from across the city have donated ingredients so the meals are free.

The events are being staffed by volunteers from South Yorkshire Housing Association who have pledged to collectively give more than 200 hours of their time to run the events.

Gareth Parkin, programme lead for Age Better in Sheffield said: “We know from our research that Christmas Day is going to be a really lonely time for those who are isolated, so we wanted to do something special and give them a day to remember.”

Anyone who would like to attend can contact the team on 0114 2702 536.
