COMEDY fans descended on Sheffield City Hall to see eight local businesspeople try their luck at stand-up for charity.
Contestants took to the stage for fundraising event Funny Business in aid of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
The event, organised jointly by Weston Park and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, raised more than £6,500 for the charity’s ‘Do Your Bit’ Campaign, fronted by screen star Sean Bean.
The money raised will go towards a state-of-the-art cancer research and treatment suite.
The contestants underwent five weeks of training with Sheffield comic Anthony J Brown, known for his dark humour and dead-pan delivery.
One of the participants - executive director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, Richard Wright - performed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, and said: “I was happy to raise money for such a great cause.”
Siobhan Newton from Sheffield Hallam University’s Sheffield Business School was judged the winner, Faith Douglas from Natwest came second, and Sue Bullivant of MLS Contracts was third.
