A BUDDY scheme is aiming to encourage more people with disabilities to get involved in sport.

Charity Leonard Cheshire Disability is urging disabled people in Sheffield to sign up for Yoodo Sports, which sees volunteers paired up with people to get fit and healthy.

The project is running drop-in gym sessions at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield in Coleridge Road starting this week. The scheme is open to people with disabilities or long-term health conditions.

Alex Gibbons, Yoodo Sports project manager, said: “Disabled people often face the serious challenge of changing people’s perceptions of who they are and what they can do. Beginning a new sport or pastime is no exception. The hub gives members and buddies the chance to be active together.”
