DELIGHTED bingo fan Irene Lee is celebrating a £6,582 jackpot.

Irene, aged 79, walked away with the pay-out from Doncaster’s Mecca club - but nearly missed out on the prize after swapping her session at the last minute.

She said: “I normally go along and play at night but I couldn’t make it so went along in the afternoon.

“I was just in complete shock when I realised I had won and how much I had won.

“I was just overcome with it all. Everyone was coming up to me telling me how marvellous it was and how pleased they were for me.”

Irene, of Cantley, a regular for the past 21 years at the East Laith Gate club, picked up her jackpot playing a national game, where players from other clubs compete for the same prize.

It is not the first time Irene has picked up a big bingo cheque. She picked up a £4,000 prize 10 years ago from another club and picked up £100 just a few days before her big win.

Irene spent £19 on cards on her winning night and is now thinking how to spend her winnings.
