Barnsley’s Wentworth Castle conservatory greets royal visitor a year after its reopening

Wentworth Castle’s restored Victorian conservatory celebrated its first anniversary with a visit from HRH the Duke of Gloucester.

The Queen’s cousin toured the Grade II* listed glasshouse and planted a traditional raffia palm in the Africa flowerbed.

He also visited the garden pavilion, known as the Gun Room because of its Victorian usage. The Gun Room, originally built in 1732, is to be a future restoration project for the castle’s heritage trust.
