Band director in Jubilee debut

A BAND’S youngest ever musical director will make his debut in a concert to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

Newly-appointed John Turnbull, 37, will lead Barnsley Concert Band as they take to the stage at Monk Bretton Methodist Church, High Street, Monk Bretton on Thursday, May 31.

In a bid to get stuck into his new role, Mr Turnbull is planning upbeat pieces that pick up on the Jubilee theme and appeal to all ages. It is hoped the celebrations, which mark 60 years since the Queen’s coronation, will prove a big draw with the local community.

Church members will be providing refreshments, a jubilee-themed quiz and a raffle to give the event a street party flavour.

Union Jack flags will also be provided to concert-goers.

Tickets can be purchased from the the venue or by calling 01226 281965.
