A SOUTH Yorkshire school is teaming up with a leading brass band to stage a celebration of music in the local community.
The choir at Barnsley’s Birkwood Primary is to perform with Grimethorpe Colliery Band in the school hall at 7.15pm on Thursday, December 6.
It is the second year running that the choir and band will make music together, with the £1.50 price of the tickets going to charity - although pupils and ex-miners can get in for free.
The partnership grew out of a project which saw the children learning about the mining and music heritage of the local community of Cudworth.
This term 12 pupils have been learning to play brass band instruments, with band members providing an hour’s tuition every week. All will be performing at the concert.
