A SOUTH Yorkshire watercolour artist is stepping out to launch a walk around a Pennine town based on his paintings.

Ashley Jackson, who was born and raised in Barnsley, has devised a stroll around Holmfirth which offers visitors the chance to follow in an artist’s footsteps.

Walkers can stop at exact locations along the two-and-a-half-mile route to compare Ashley’s watercolour interpretation with the real thing.

People following the walk, which will be published as a map, can dip in and out of the route according to their abilities. The trail mainly follows quiet single lanes.

Ashley said: “I hope this walk will encourage others to see the beauty of the landscape and value it for other generations.

“It will also possibly explain how Holmfirth and its surrounding moorland has continued to influence me.”

n The free map will be available at www.ashley-jackson.co.uk from next Tuesday.
