THEY gave it a try and liked it so much the ladies stuck around.
Sheffield Harmony Chorus organisers were a little worried last year when the number of members started to drop.
But now the chorus is celebrating doubling its membership to 55 after offering free singing classes.
President Sue Finnigan said: “Chorus members come and go and by last summer our numbers had dwindled to around 25.
“We know it’s quality not quantity that counts, but it was becoming difficult for us to ensure the right balance of parts for our public performances.
“So we put on a free 12 week singing course open to all ages and voice ranges.
“Each member committed themselves to handing out 200 leaflets each, and the effort paid off with the course attracting more than 60 attendees.”
Musical director Barry Clinton said: “Our new ladies have been amazing. They’ve been dedicated and enthusiastic throughout and we’ve really enjoyed working together.”
