Alabaster art up for auction

Have your say

A UNIQUE silent art auction is to take place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on May 13 when the very last pieces of rare English alabaster will go on sale.

The Derbyshire stone has been crafted into 10 sculptures by Vivien Whitaker to raise money for a new Steinway C piano for Sheffield arts charity, Music in the Round.

Vivien is celebrated internationally for her work and the pieces of alabaster come from Dove Dale in the Peak District.

The new piano will be put in the Crucible Studio Theatre where audiences are only 20ft away from the musicians.
