Former servants quarters in South Yorkshire are to be transformed into learning facilities thanks to a six-figure grant.
The Arts Council has awarded £143,000 to Cannon Hall Museum, Cawthorne, Barnsley, to create a ‘learning lab’ for schools, families and adults.
The basement room will be redecorated, providing a new classroom space with IT equipment.
Coun Roy Miller, Barnsley Council cabinet spokesman for development, environment and culture, said: “I’m so pleased the bid to the Arts Council was successful.
“The design of the learning lab has been carried out following talks with schools to see what they expect from facilities and the practicalities of a visit.
“Cannon Hall will offer a first-class learning offer for schools and the wider community.”
Michelle Dickson, of Arts Council England, said: “The new centre will enable more schools, young people and families to be inspired by Cannon Hall’s collections while increasing its sustainability and generating new income streams.
“I look forward to seeing the results of its work.”
Cannon Hall is owned by Barnsley Council.
