Meadowhall shopping centre is vamping up for Christmas by announcing the first details of its festive lights switch-on show.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the event at the Sheffield centre – and now the first act confirmed to appear has been revealed.

Indie-pop band The Vamps will play at the event on Wednesday, November 6.

The quartet – singer Bradley Simpson, guitarist James McVey, bassist Connor Ball and drummer Tristan Evans – formed last year with their first single only released on Monday, but the video of Can We Dance has already received more than a million views on YouTube.

Alex Caley, Meadowhall event manager, said: “We are delighted to announce The Vamps as our first act at this year’s Light Switch On.

“We will be announcing further acts very soon.”

The concert has attracted a stream of big names to the centre in the past, including Sheffield’s The X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, Olly Murs and Eliza Doolittle.

Tickets for the event, priced £2.50, are now on sale at www.capitalfm.com/yorkshire/events/meadowhall-christmas-lights-2013/ and will be available to buy in the centre between Friday and Monday, November 1 and 4 – proceeds will go toSheffield Children’s Hospital, the centre’s charity of the year, and Help a Capital Child.
