When it comes to tribute bands they don’t come much bigger than this.

Not a case of four blokes in the back room of the local playing a few covers, this is a full-lown blown show with a spectacular light and laser show that would suit even the original Pink Floyd.

Playing Sheffield on the last night of their UK tour, Brit Floyd hit the stage with the classic Shine On You Crazy Diamond, a song about the late lead singer Syd Barrett who was a larger than life character.

Following that was Learning To Fly then High Hopes from the Division Bell album.

The stage set up at Sheffield City Hall featured a large white screen running images of the original band, as well as material linked to the songs.

This was coupled with a light show that would not have been out of place with any global star or at larger venues like Sheffield’s Arena.

In fact, I have to say it’s one of the most impressive light shows I’ve seen in a few years and linked in superbly to the music.

The rest of the first set took us through part of the back catalogue of Floyd with a set of musicians who were not out of place playing this material.

After about an hour of the gig we got a 20-minute interval to catch our breath.

After that we were treated to another 90 minutes of classic rock with the band working their way through tracks like Money, Another Brick in the Wall, Time, Wish You Were Here, Great Gig in the Sky culminating in a superb rendition of Comfortably Numb.

If you’ve not seen Brit Floyd before, and I hadn’t, I can say that you will not be disappointed in what you get for your money.

Okay, we are not likely to see Pink Floyd at the City Hall or anywhere else locally, so this could be as close as you get, but at a smaller portion of the ticket prices.

The band say they are touring again next year so if you can, don’t just Wish You Were There....be there.
