JAZZ fans have plenty to sing and dance about - we’re giving away tickets and a free MP3 track to celebrate Swinging at the Cotton Club coming to The Civic, Barnsley.
The South Yorkshire venue will be transformed into the Cotton Club, New York’s famous nightclub of the 1920s and 1930s.
For one night only - Saturday, September 29, at 7.30pm - audiences will get the chance to step back into Harlem of the roaring ’20s.
Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Lena Horne and Fats Waller were staples of the club, while dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit up the stage with their breathtaking routines.
The Duke Ellington Orchestra was the house orchestra for years and each revue featured glamorous dancing girls, tap-dancers and vaudeville acts.
It’s a celebration of the music, dance and songs of the most glamorous decades of the last century.
The music and dance routines will be recreated by jazz dance company The Jiving Lindy Hoppers and Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra who honour the exuberance and sounds of The Cotton Club.
Tickets are £18.50, may be subject to a booking fee.
Buy in person from The Civic Box Office, Hanson Street, Barnsley, call 01226 327 000 or visit www.barnsleycivic.co.uk.
