BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Toby Foster returned to the airwaves yesterday.
The 44-year-old had been suspended from his breakfast show since before Christmas after comments he made on social media.
Toby was reinstated last week and began his first live broadcast yesterday with an explanation for his six-week absence.
He said: “Just before Christmas I made some daft comments on social media, which were totally unfounded and one in particular was offensive.
“Obviously this caused problems at BBC Radio Sheffield, which is why I have not been here.
“I have since apologised to everyone at the radio station and I would like to thank them all for their help over the last six weeks.”
Toby, who lives near Rotherham, was suspended after a Twitter outburst in which he feared he was facing the sack.
He joined Radio Sheffield in 2002, working at the station as well as running his Last Laugh Comedy Club business.
n BBC Radio Sheffield colleagues attended the funeral of former presenter Jane Kitson yesterday, who died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 46.
