Brass band members in Sheffield have brought home the silver at a national competition.
Players from Stannington Brass Band collected two trophies at the Leicestershire Brass Band Association open contest in Loughborough at the weekend.
They performed alongside 21 other bands and impressed the judges to secure second place and the runners up plaque.
There was a further celebration when cornet player, Richard Dowling, scooped first place for the best soloist.
The trophies will be on display at a concert in their home village early next month when the band’s members begin spreading the festive cheer.
The band will perform at A Winter’s Tale concert at the Lomas Hall on Saturday, December 6.
The concert, which will also feature Clifton Handbell Ringers, starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced £7 and £6 for concessions and are available from Stannington Hardware, on Stannington Road, and by calling 0114 233 2821.
The band will continue its festive performances the following day at a concert with Boy on a Dolphin’s John Reilly at Sheffield Cathedral, before performing at various pubs and venues up to Boxing Day, when they will finish at Stannington Village Hall at 9.45am.
Among its performances is the St Luke Hospice Service of Celebration and Remembrance at Sheffield Cathedral on Sunday, December 14 at 2pm.
