SHEFFIELD has produced some charismatic stars from Def Leppard to the Arctic Monkeys and the Human League, but never anyone quite like Laura Steel - an enigmatic power-pop diva, writes Graham Walker.
She’s the girl with looks that kill and hooks that leave a mark like a sonic lipstick kissed stain on your psyche.
Laura, a singer songwriter, has been wowing crowds at festivals such as Wireless in London’s Hyde Park and the Big Top stage lineup at 2011’s sold out Isle Of Wight Festival.
She writes her own material and is fully involved in the creative process from designing her own artwork through to crafting her own unique personal style.
Her musical journey has seen her travel between London, New York and Los Angeles to work alongside songwriters and producers such as Jens Gad, Tina Parol, Brian London, Marc Nelkin and Karlin Kenneth, who between them have worked with most of pop’s A-list - Britney, Bruno Mars, Jason Derulo, Ke$ha and Lady Gaga.
Now the Aston girl is back home to perform at this year’s Sheftival on the Real Radio stage, on Saturday, August 4, 1.30pm.
Laura, who attended Wales High School, said: “I’ve got a single out called Overdrive, about how I felt for somebody at the moment. I felt like my heart was ane engine and I had lost contgrol.
“It’s full on rocky pop, in your face and I can’t wait to play Sheftival. My family have seen me get this far and it will be great to have them there on the day.”
