The crowds were rockin’ all over Town Moor on Saturday night when legendary British rockers Status Quo kicked off Doncaster Racecourse’s season of summer concerts in style.

With the sun shining, crowds flocked to the racecourse to enjoy a rather pleasant day at the races, though the highlight for many of course was the concert which followed when racing ended.

Status Quo are still going strong after more than 40 years in the business and they’ve definitely still got it. Clad in their trademark denim and wielding their guitars like the true rock stars they are, they belted out a selection of their best known hits and the excitable crowd lapped it up.

There was plenty of interaction with the crowd from frontman Francis Rossi, which always goes down well, but it was the songs that people really wanted to hear.

Paper Plane made an early appearance in the set and Down Down certainly got people dancing around and singing along with the band.

However, it seemed the crowd were waiting for two very specific songs to really let go and the ‘Quo didn’t disappoint them.

Whatever You Want and Rockin’ All Over The World went down a storm, with the band encouraging the crowd to sing along and get involved and practically everyone joining in, belting out the tune at the top of their lungs.

The atmosphere was incredible, and seeing people of all ages doing air guitar along with the band was a truly wonderful sight to behold.

Status Quo may have been around for a long time but it was obvious they are still as popular as ever and, perhaps more than that, they are still attracting a younger generation of fans.

I can’t think of a better way for Doncaster Racecourse to kick off their summer concert season, and judging by the reaction from the crowd on the night, I’m not the only one who thought so; the crowd at Town Moor absolutely loved it.

If you ever get chance to see Status Quo live I’d thoroughly recommend it. You’ll like it.
