Review: Example, O2 Academy

Have your say

Another full venue marks the phenomenal rise of 29 year old Londoner Example and on the strength of two sell-out national tours in 2011 its no great surprise he is undertaking an arena tour next year.

Example is no overnight success though, Elliott Gleave (initials e.g. hence Example) released music through his own label in 2006 and gradually built up a fanbase culminating in breakthrough single Watch The Sun Come Up charting at 2009.

His star rose to new heights this year when single Change The Way You Kissed Me hit number 1 with follow up Stay Awake doing likewise, then third album Playing In The Shadows also going straight to the top of the charts.

This evening’s venue is heaving from the moment the doors open with many vying for position front and centre.

Example took the stage to deafening cheers and chants with the driving bass beats shake the building foundations as he tears into Skies Don’t Lie. With the crowd hanging onto his every word and gesture even nodding their heads in sync when told to by Mr Gleave, you know this is going to be a special event.

Stay Awake gets an early airing as does Midnight Run and the set closes with Kickstarts then the demanded encore brings quality third album tracks Microphone and The Way before inevitably Changed The Way You Kissed Me calls time on a memorable night.
