Post punk band Echo and the Bunnymen, who headlined the city’s 2010 Tramlines festival, are back on track in Sheffield- with a new album and tour, writes Graham Walker.
The Killing Moon chart stars play Sheffield’s Leadmill on Wednesday, November 26.
It’s part of a 10-date tour to promote the release of twelfth studio album, Meteorites, their first studio record in five years.
Meteorites contains 10 new songs written by frontman Ian McCulloch and performed with fellow original band-member Will Sergeant on guitar.
It was produced by Youth, who has in the past produced The Verve, Shack & The Orb.
The UK top 40 album album has received worldwide critical acclaim and was described as ‘starry-eyed anthemic rock and classic Bunnymen pop’.
It is a key addition to their repertoire and sees them continue to be one of the most seminal British rock acts in modern music history.
Formed in Liverpool in 1978, Echo & The Bunnymen have been responsible for some of the most celebrated singles in music history including top 10 hits The Killing Moon, The Cutter and Nothing Lasts Forever.
Other memorable tracks include Rescue, Lips Like Sugar and The Back of Love.
They have also released 10 live albums, nine compilation albums, eight extended plays and 22 music videos.
Classic albums in their long illustrious career, included debut Crocodiles in 1980, the majestic Heaven Up Here in ‘81, Porcupine, produced by Ian Broudie, in 1983, the orchestral-rock masterpiece Ocean Rain, in 1984, their classic comeback album Evergreen, in 1997 and 1999’s haunting What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?.
Echo & the Bunnymen have just returned from a sell-out North American tour where they performed Holy Moses on The Late Show With David Letterman.
The band’s loyal and ever growing following is showing no signs of abating.
