ONE thing is for certain there won’t be another Sheffield venue this weekend hosting the kind of music Dogan Mehmet brings to the table.

The young Brighton-born Turkish Cypriot and his backing band The Deerhunters tender an Anglo-Turkish, gypsy-style blend of traditions and potent acoustic grooves.

This diversity and energy was first displayed by Gypsyhead, the album he’s about to sequel with Outlandish with its fusions of reggae and rock adding to his sub-genre of Ottoman funk.

Dogan, who sings, plays fiddle and has appeared in sketches for Omid Djalili’s BBC show, is at The Greystones on Sunday.
