Violin Delights, St Marie’s Cathedral
Versatile young classically-trained musician and singer Rosy Williams is giving this recital at Sheffield’s Catholic cathedral this Friday evening.
Manchester-born Rosy studied as a postgraduate at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in her home city.
She enjoys a wide variety of work as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and fiddler.
Rosy freelances with orchestras such as the Northern Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru, the Lancashire Sinfonietta, the Manchester Concert Orchestra and Skipton Camerata.
She is also a member of the newly-formed Irwell Ensemble and sings with jazz bands.
She met her piano acconpanist for Friday’s concert, Jonathan Gait, in an unlikely setting – behind the barricades on a set of Les Miserables where Jonathan was the musical director.
Jonnie has been freelancing in Manchester as a pianist and piano teacher for seven years, since graduating from Manchester University.
He also now holds a prestigious position as a pianist for the Northern Ballet School.
The programme for the recital will include the slow movement from Bach’s A minor violin concerto, Beethoven’s Romance for violin, Massenet’s Méditation (Thaïs) and Elgar’s Chanson de Nuit.
Tickets are priced £7 and £5 concessions. They can be booked in advance online at the www.arenaticketshop.co.uk, over the phone at 0114 2565567 and in person at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield City Hall and Sheffield Theatres.
