CHART stars Toploader plan to be Dancing In The Moonlight back in Sheffield - after a six year break, the hitmakers have revealed in a video chat.

They announced a mini tour on the back of a single called Never Stop Wondering.

But a bigger tour is planned after the release of their comeback album, Only Human, on May 30.

And they are looking foreward to a return to Sheffield, said frontman Joseph Washbourn and guitarist Dan Hipgrave.

The band mates were in the city to showcase the new single, which they performed along with album track Weight Of The World and global hit Dancing In The Moonlight, at a special live-lounge session at Hallam FM.

Toploader, who formed in 1997, had over two million album sales and a string of top 20 hits with debut album Onka’s Big Moka and follow-up Magic Hotel.

Their cover of King Harvest’s song Dancing in the Moonlight became a world wide hit.

They supported Coldplay, Muse, Paul Weller, Robbie Williams and Bon Jovi, becoming the last British band to play the original Wembley Stadium.

But they split up in 2003 due to the demise of their record label S2.

Now, after an extended hiatus, four of the five original members are back together again - Joseph, Dan, Rob Green and Matt Knight.

It was Dan’s stag do, ahead of his marriage to TV and Radio 5 Live presenter Lynsey Horn, that brought them back together - like a morning after the night before scene from Hollywood blockbuster movie, Hangover.

“You start talking at a pub and wake up in the morning and say, ‘oh, did I say I’d do that? Did I say we’d get back in Toploader? Oh no’,’’ lead singer Joseph laughed.

“It was six years. We kind of split up in 2003 and got back together in 2009. Everyone’s got wiser and older. But it’s crazy how similar it all was, in a good way. In the way that it started out in the first place.

“With an album we will do more extensive dates and go everywhere.”

Dan, previously married to Gail Porter, revealed: “It was my stag do that got us all back together. It was a rare opportunity for us all to be in the same room.

“It had always been in the back of our minds that we could do it again. It was all about the right time really.

“It took a few months after that night out by the way, about four months. We didn’t start doing it the next day.”

He added: “We will come back, this is a small tour to go along with a taster single - but we will release a full single later in the year and with that we will have a bigger tour.

“We love Sheffield. We played the Leadmill in the early days. It was great fun.”
