RELIGION’S loss was music’s gain as Wu Lyf – World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation – found the perfect place to practise their art in a disused Manchester church.

They recorded debut album Go Tell Fire To The Mountain – released two days after they play Sheffield’s Queens Social Club tomorrow – after setting up in the middle of the huge, Venetian-style building, playing day and night for three weeks to capture a raw, live sound before taking it to Glasgow to be mixed. The result is 10 tracks of huge, uncompromising “heavy pop”.

After refusing various deals, Wu Lyf decided to go it alone on their LYF Recordings and played their first gig outside of Manchester in the French Riviera town of Hyeres, since adding shows at Sydney Opera House to their CV.
