PAUL Rissmann, Children’s Composer in Residence with Sheffield-based Music in the Round, has won a top award for a piece which premiered in the city and was seen by 4,000 children nationwide.
Mr Rissmann was honoured at the British Composer Awards for The Chimpanzees of Happytown, first seen at the Crucible Theatre last year.
An audience of 1,000 at the Octagon was enraptured by his latest work, Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants.
Both pieces were commissioned by Music in the Round with the musicians of Ensemble 360, MitR’s resident chamber group.
They combined stories by children’s author Giles Andreae with music, narration and participation from young children.
Earlier this year Music in the Round was runner-up in the Royal Philharmonic Awards.
