Music bosses are celebrating after an intimate South Yorkshire venue was picked to host a trio of hot new artists.
The 300-capacity Rotherham Trades Club, on Greasbrough Road, has been selected as one of the venues for the ‘Satellite Tour’ featuring a trio of acts tipped for success this year.
Sons and Lovers, a four-piece who have just supported The Naked and Famous on their latest UK tour, kick off the line-up.
Also performing are Eliza and the Bear, who are fresh off an Arena tour supporting Paramore, and singer-songwriter Fred Page, who made his name performing across London.
Richard Millard, chief executive of Rotherham Art Events, which is hosting the tour, said: “It’s helping to get Rotherham’s fantastic music scene on the map.
“There’s a fantastic live music scene developing in Rotherham with a few more venues opening up despite the not-so-clever climate, economically speaking.
“We are getting recognised nationally now, as well as locally.
“We have been running a series of concerts with the ‘Live at the Trades’ tag and there’s a third season of these coming up very shortly.
“It’s the bands that we have been able to attract to play at these concerts that have brought us the attention and got us chosen for the tour.”
“People can expect to see three of the top up-and-coming acts that are coming on the music scene at the present time.
“It looks as if there’s a fantastic diversity of music there which will be great.
“They’re all artists that are original and developing their own following and that is fantastic.”
The tour, which runs from February 5 to 22, aims to visit places in the UK that are slightly off the beaten track for the usual major tours. It arrives in Rotherham on Saturday, February 8.
A tour spokesman said: “This fantastic new nationwide tour sees some newly signed major label acts coming to play at smaller towns and venues that wouldn’t normally see these kind of ‘hot/breaking’ acts, such as The Trades in Rotherham.”
