Composed by lead singer Peter Cox and guitar/vocalist Richard Drummie, the original got them a record deal and launched their career back in 1984.
The hit song, which featured on their self-titled debut album, was more recently included on the soundtrack for the popular video game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, on Flash FM in 2002.
Cox and Drummie, whose global smash hit singles also include We Close Our Eyes and The King of Wishful Thinking, which featured in the Julia Roberts hit film Pretty Woman, were last in the region for a brief but show stopping performance as part of an 80s Rewind Christmas Tour at Sheffield Arena.
The O2 Academy concert will be their full blown show - part of a 10-date 3D UK tour to promote their new studio album, also called 3D, which has been released as three EPs over the course of the year.
It also follows the release of Frame By Frame, a compilation DVD that includes all the bands’ videos for the very first time.
In an exclusive chat with The Star - listen to it in full - CLICK HERE guitarist Richard said of Call Me: “It was the song that got us a record deal after trying for years.
“We had been writing songs from the heart, but with Call Me we sat down and tried to come up with a hit song.
“We had a storyline, a bit like writing a book. I suppose it was written from experiences though. We all do that. You see someone and want to get in contact with them but you let the moment pass, then you want to find that person - and that’s what Call Me is all about.
“The initial version was super commercial. I always used to say it sounded like an ice cream van coming round the corner.
“The version you hear now went through the production mill. As soon as the record company heard it they said that was the hit and they didn’t want to release it first, but to save it in case it was difficult to break down the door with the first song. So we released We Close Our Eyes, which became a massive hit. Then we followed up with Call Me.”
They will perform all the hits on a 3D UK tour to promote new studio album, also 3D, which is out as three EPs, and Frame By Frame, a compilation DVD of videos.
