VIDEO: Young Sheffield chefs take on Ready Steady Cook-style competition

Three young chefs have taken part in a Ready Steady Cook-style competition organised by the independent food promoter Eat Sheffield.

The trio had to produce a two-course meal in two hours from a bag of mystery ingredients.

20-year-old Ailidh-Jane Carr moved from Scotland to Sheffield to learn her trade and now works at the Cross Scythes. Ashley Gayle, who’s also 20, is a chef de partie at

The Maynard in Grindleford in Derbyshire and 19-year-old Rachel Raynes works at the Showroom in Sheffield city centre.

They were mentored by their bosses who had half an hour before the clock was started to offer advice.

The event took place in the kitchens of Sheffield Hallam University and the winner will be announced at an awards evening on Monday, October 13, 2014.
