IF YOU’RE a thinking about popping out for a takeaway this evening don’t...
Well don’t until you have given the Wonder Kitchen a try at least.
When it comes to Chinese takeaways it seems that South Yorkshire has become a bit samey. Nothing seems to stand out – until now.
This takeaway on Worksop Road, Swallownest, shines out like a Singapore beacon.
We ordered our meal by phone and were informed it would be prepared for pick up in 20 minutes or so. Having arrived at a squeaky clean, well decorated shop at the given time we were informed they were running a few minutes behind.
And I could see why. The place was rammed with customers.
After a short wait – I hardly had time to take my seat to watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen – our food was delivered by a very apologetic young man. And boy was it worth the extra few minutes of our time.
Piping hot, restaurant quality and at bargain prices. The three of us shared a house platter of beautifully crisp seaweed, meaty ribs, chicken wings, rolls, prawn toast and a portion of sweet and sour sauce.
This was followed by a huge portion of prawn-packed special fried rice and a melt in the mouth sweet and sour Hong Kong style chicken dish.
Now when we have a Chinese we usually like to save a bit for the dog.
But, though the portions were big enough for the dog to get a share, we decided early on that if there was anything left it was going to be re-heated for human consumption the next day.
No way was the dog going to get it.
Sorry Steffi the Staffy.
