I WAS in the mood for something other than the usual sandwich at my desk when I decided to visit Sheffield coffee shop ‘Twenty Two A.’
What the name of the quaint cafe lacks in imagination is more than made up for in its creative takeaway menu.
With the reins of healthy eating slightly loosened by ‘that Friday feeling,’ it was their dessert and hot drinks menu in particular that left me and my colleague with our noses pressed up against the glass like a couple of kids in a candy shop.
After several minutes spent to-ing and fro-ing, I eventually settled on a simple ham and cheese toastie while my colleague went for a bacon and blue cheese bagel. We splurged on a brownie and a slice of cheesecake to go too.
It was very hard not to be tempted by the amazing hot chocolate menu – one for every day of the week! One included segments of chocolate orange, one had chocolate buttons melted in it and the ‘piece de resistance’ was a mug of warm milk with an entire Mars Bar in the middle. Oh yes.
While we waited we took a seat in the delightful cafe which is understated and a bit like sitting in your friend’s kitchen while they make you a bite to eat. The room is cosy and the atmosphere is peaceful and sunny.
Our food was ready in five minutes and the bacon and blue cheese bagel was a work of art. The combination of delicious crusty bagel with blue cheese sauce drizzled over perfectly grilled bacon made this a delectable treat to end the week on. My toastie was one of the best I’ve had. Their homemade desserts were the icing on the cake - literally! The large brownie was as chocolatey as they come, while the generous portion of cheesecake was creamy and sinfully rich.
Twenty Two A, I’ve decided, has now become a regular end-of-the-week ‘haunt.’ I’m going to make it my mission to work my way through the menu.
It’s a hard job but somebody’s gotta do it.
