IT’S hardly fair to review a place on its first day open – but we did it anyway.
This branch of Street Food Chef is deep in student land on Arundel Street. Inside it’s clean, basic and organised although the sound of sawing and hammering is still coming from behind the scenes. The success of their other outlets on Fargate and on Pinstone Street shows Sheffield likes authentic Mexican food and we got the Beef Burrito which comes with rice and beans and is tasty and filling. Good beef and plenty of it rolled in a soft tortilla with a portion of guacamole.
We also had a pork taco which was the highlight. Slow-cooked tender pork with crispy bits and a great flavour on a soft taco with salad and coriander – I’d have the bigger one next time.
Chicken Quesadilla is a folded tortilla with chicken, melted cheese and salsa. I chose mild salsa on all three dishes and didn’t notice it so if you like heat with your Mexican go for medium or hot.
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful and although there was a queue the food only took five minutes – and they promised to be quicker next time.
The three dishes came well wrapped and packaged, cost £8.75 and it was enough for two for lunch.
